2027 four-star quarterback Trae Taylor has quickly becoming one of the most complete signal-callers in the Midwest, and at 6’3, 187 pounds, the Carmel Catholic (IL) standout is already built for the next level. Now committed to the University of Nebraska, Taylor’s rise hasn’t been by accident—it’s been fueled by a lifelong connection to the game and a relentless daily work ethic.
Football has been part of Taylor’s story since day one. “I played flag when I was 3 then started tackle at 5. I grew up around football… my first day home from the hospital my dad took me to an arena game,” he said. With his father being a “consensus 1st team All-American RB at Eastern Illinois,” Taylor adds, “I was born into football kinda.” That foundation helped shape both his love for the game and his understanding of what it takes to excel.
Behind the scenes, Taylor’s development is powered by a deep and intentional support system. “My dad is involved in almost anything I do pertaining to football,” he explained. From quarterback coaches Donovan Dooley and Steve Wilson to his strength, speed, yoga, and boxing trainers, Taylor credits his team fully, saying, “Let’s just say I’m not where I am without them.” That all-around approach has sharpened both his physical tools and his mental edge.
Winning has always been the priority for Taylor, especially during the 2025 season. “My goals were really just one—to make sure my team was winning this year,” he said. Carmel Catholic finished 8–3, a result Taylor was proud of. Looking ahead, his focus is clear: “My goal this offseason is to get bigger, faster, and stronger… make sure I’m at my best for my team while getting ready for college.”
On the recruiting front, Taylor’s future is locked in. “I’m committed to Nebraska,” he said, noting the Cornhuskers’ momentum with “a top 5 recruiting class.” As one of the headliners in that class, Taylor represents the next wave of Nebraska football—talented, driven, and battle-tested.
Off the field, Taylor is just as forward-thinking. “I’m just a regular kid enjoying my last year of high school,” he shared. One of his biggest passions right now is his podcast, Beyond the Hashes, which he co-hosts with Tay Ellis. With aspirations of becoming a sports broadcaster one day, Taylor’s vision extends well beyond the huddle.
