Patrick Ryan Jr. is already building a national name for himself before ever stepping onto a high school field. The 2030 wide receiver, who stands 5’11, 150 pounds, is an eighth-grade Under Armour All-American and will attend St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Florida this fall. His football journey began almost as soon as he could walk, rooted in family and discipline.
“I started playing football early almost as soon as I could walk,” Ryan said. “My dad used to have me doing ladder drills ever since I was 1 1/2 years old… I first started running track at 4 years old & my 1st year of organized football was flag at 4-5 & then contact at 6 years old.” That early foundation in coordination and footwork has helped shape him into a polished young receiver with advanced skills for his age.
Much of Ryan’s daily motivation comes directly from his father, a former college quarterback who also played professionally in the AFL and NAL. “What motivates me to get better every day is my dad,” he explained. “Me & my dad do everything together he’s my trainer… we train together & we go set for set, rep for rep.” Catching passes from a professional quarterback at home has given Ryan a rare advantage and a constant standard to live up to.
Ryan’s development is also guided by elite football knowledge within his family circle. “My dad’s best friend… is a former NFL Wide Receiver, Ed Gant. He is my God Father/Uncle,” Ryan said. “For all the little intricate details my dad doesn’t know about the WR position I get from my Uncle Ed Gant.” He credits that mentorship for helping him become “very polished at a young age & understand the craft.”
As he prepares for his freshman season, Ryan’s offseason goals are clear and physical. “The main thing I’m working on is my body development & getting as big & strong as possible,” he said. “So my main focus is Strength, Size, & Speed. You can’t hit what you can’t catch so I’m always on the track working speed & fast-twitch explosion work as well.”
After competing in the Under Armour All-America Game, Ryan’s recruiting has taken off rapidly. “My recruitment has been going pretty well… I received several more [offers],” he shared. He currently holds offers from LSU, Florida State, Florida, Kentucky, Pitt, Boston College, Purdue, Georgia Tech, Liberty, Southern Miss, Western Michigan, Sacramento State, and others—an impressive list for an eighth grader.
Off the field, Ryan is still very much a kid who enjoys time with family and friends. “Away from the field my favorite things to do is go fishing with my dad, & play golf & bowling with my friends,” he said. He also helps give back through community training sessions, adding, “My dad does QB & speed training twice a week in the community… I always go with him to get some work & help out the younger kids as well.” With elite guidance, growing recruiting attention, and a strong support system, Patrick Ryan Jr. is positioning himself as one of the most promising young wide receivers in the 2030 class.
