2028 quarterback Kingston Preyear is quickly emerging as one of Alabama’s most competitive young signal-callers, and his journey began at an early age. Preyear, who attends Benjamin Russell High School, first fell in love with football at just six years old. “My Dad would have friends over to watch big games. I wanted to play on TV so they could cheer for me,” he said. Once he learned the game, his mindset was set. “I fell in love with the competition of every single play… I love to compete and win,” a mentality reflected in the fact that he’s “only lost 2 football games since my 7th grade season.”

That competitive edge has been sharpened by a strong support system that surrounds him daily. Preyear credits his father as the foundation of his development, saying, “He believed in me first. I wouldn’t be where I am if it weren’t for the decisions he’s made for our family.” On the field, he continues to refine his craft with QB trainers Ben Neil and Galu Tagovailoa, who have helped with “mechanical growth and understanding the QB position.”

At the high school level, Preyear is pushed to grow both mentally and physically by his coaching staff. He points to Coach Kirk Johnson, Coach Cody Hodgens, and Coach Jeremy Johnson as key figures, adding, “They push and develop me mentally and physically every day. I have a really sound support system.” That structure helped guide him through a strong 2025 season.

Team success was the standard heading into the year. “My number one goal was to win the state championship,” Preyear said. Benjamin Russell finished 12–2, falling in the semifinals, but the young quarterback’s focus is already forward. “I will continue developing this off-season. I’ll be better, bigger, faster, and stronger next year. Winning will continue to be my number one goal every year.”

Recruiting momentum is also building quickly for the 2028 QB. Preyear currently holds offers from Vanderbilt, Auburn, Ole Miss, Purdue, Colorado, Houston, Troy, FIU, and Georgia State. With visits planned in the coming months, he shared, “I plan to visit some schools this spring and summer. I plan to commit this year.”

Off the field, Preyear is grounded by faith and family. “I’m a Christian. I believe God has elevated me to be a vessel to inspire and help others,” he said. When he’s not preparing for Friday nights, he enjoys “spending time with family” and unwinding by “watching movies and TV shows,” showing the balance that continues to shape both the player—and the person—he’s becoming.
