At 6-foot-2 and 175 pounds, Rancho Bernardo High School’s Gaige Weddle is emerging as a top dual-threat player in the class of 2028. The quarterback and safety has been making waves on the field, showing the instincts and talent that run in the family—his father, Eric Weddle, is an NFL great. But while the last name carries weight, Gaige is carving out his own legacy.

Weedle has been playing football for as long as he can remember, getting an early start in multiple sports. “I have played football my whole life since I was five,” he said. “Football, basketball, and baseball—I played all three growing up. My parents put me into those, and I ended up loving football the most. I still play basketball in high school now.”

This offseason, Weddle is fully locked in on his development, working with FastCamp 7v7 and refining his game with trainer Mike Garza. “I’m working on my weaknesses from last year,” he said. “Not planning on any more visits or spring ball. I want to focus on being great next season and leading my team the best way possible.”

His dedication has already drawn significant college attention. Utah, BYU, Washington, Tennessee, SDSU, USC, Oregon State, and San Jose State have all extended offers. “The schools that have come by in January have been fun to talk with,” Weedle said. “Being able to go to USC junior day was fun. Spending a few hours with all the coaches makes it real—you can see how they operate, how they coach, and how that will impact me if I went there.”

Growing up around the NFL has given Weedle a unique perspective on the game. “I’ve been around it my whole life—going to my dad’s games, being in the locker room, on the field after games, going to practices. It’s what I know,” he said. “My dad has helped me in so many ways. It’s awesome to be coached by one of the best, knowing that everything he says is preparing me for life on and off the field. The coaching is high level, and it gives me confidence that I’ll be able to adjust quickly at the next level from a scheme standpoint.”

Off the field, Weddle is just a regular teenager who loves to compete and spend time with loved ones. “Outside of football, I love to play golf, hang out with friends, watch movies, and watch sports—mainly football,” he said. “My faith and family are most important. Always trying to be better in those areas is a focal point.”

With his work ethic, football IQ, and elite training, Gaige Weddle is a name to watch in the coming years. While his father set a high bar, Gaige is determined to make his own mark—his way.
