Hamilton High School’s 2028 defensive back and wide receiver Lagarrette Blount Jr. is already making a name for himself on the football field. The 5-foot-11, 165-pound athlete carries a recognizable name, as the son of former NFL running back Lagarrette Blount Sr., but he’s carving out his own legacy with hard work and dedication.
Blount Jr. got into football at an early age, inspired by watching his father dominate in the NFL. “I first got into football when I was 5 after watching my dad play in the NFL,” he said. “I started playing competitively when I was 8 years old.”
Now, he’s focused on becoming a better all-around athlete, training with former NFL cornerback Marquice Cole and running track to improve his speed. “I train with Marquice Cole most of the week, and I run track, so I train with my track coach, EJ. I will get faster through running track and agility workouts, and get bigger by lifting weights and eating protein.”
His efforts are paying off, as his recruiting process is heating up. “My recruiting process is going good, and I’m getting blessed with 4 offers,” Blount Jr. shared. “What I look for in a college is the coaches and how the players are. How good the players and coaches are with building relationships.”
Of course, having a father who played at the highest level comes with a built-in advisor. “He will help me a lot by helping me when I have questions on where to commit and slimming my options down to which college is the best for me in the future.”
While football is a big part of his life, Blount Jr. prides himself on being well-rounded. “I think I’m unique because outside of football I am big on family, God, and friends. I enjoy spending time with my family and chilling in the house when I’m not doing football, school, or workouts.”
With his talent, work ethic, and strong support system, Lagarrette Blount Jr. is poised to make waves in the football world, just like his father—but on his own terms.
