Coming out of Newton High School, 2028 4-star running back Kevin Hartsfield is quickly establishing himself as one of the most electrifying young talents in the country. At 5-foot-10, 200 pounds, Hartsfield recently earned the distinction of being ranked the No. 1 overall running back in the 2028 class by Rivals—a testament to both his production and potential.

Hartsfield’s journey in football started almost as early as it possibly could. “I started playing football around 3 going on 4,” he said. “My initial spark was the intensity and of course seeing my older brother play made me push myself.” That early exposure laid the foundation for a relentless drive that still fuels him today. “God, and family motivates me to keep improving every day,” he added.

That work ethic shows up in his offseason preparation, where he’s focused on evolving into a complete back. Training under Marquell Beckwith, Hartsfield has set ambitious goals. “I set the goal to get 1000 receiving yards to show my versatility to college coaches I’m not strictly a running,” he said, emphasizing his determination to become a dual-threat weapon out of the backfield.

Being recognized as a 4-star prospect—and the top running back in his class—holds deep meaning for Hartsfield. “It means a lot it’s truly a blessing by god,” he shared. Despite the accolades, he remains grounded, keeping his focus on continued growth rather than rankings.

On the recruiting trail, Hartsfield is already drawing attention from some of the nation’s premier programs. Schools like University of Georgia, University of Alabama, Ohio State University, University of Texas at Austin, and University of Miami are all in the mix. “My recruiting process has been going great… I see they all have their backs involved in the passing game and they develop backs pretty well—that’s what I wanna be apart of, not a name but a place where I can be developed,” he explained.

Off the field, Hartsfield stays true to his values and upbringing. “I’m a very God centered person, I love the word. That’s just how I was raised,” he said. Along with striving for academic success and making all A’s, he enjoys playing basketball, video games, and listening to music while continuing to stay active in his community and personal growth.

Behind his rise is a strong support system, highlighted by one key figure. “My pops motivating me everyday he’s been here every step of the way,” Hartsfield said. With elite talent, a clear vision, and a grounded mindset, Kevin Hartsfield is not only chasing greatness—he’s building it day by day.
