2028 4-star linebacker Travion “Trey” Washington is one of the premier defensive prospects in Mississippi and in the entire 2028 class. The 6-foot-1, 207-pound standout from Brandon High School brings a combination of physicality, leadership, and maturity that separates him from many in his class, and his rise in the rankings reflects both his production and relentless work ethic.

Washington’s journey in football began at a young age, and it didn’t take long for the game to leave a lasting impression. “I started playing football at the age of 7, and I fell in love with the competitiveness and brotherhood that comes with the game,” he said. That early passion turned into purpose, as he quickly embraced the discipline required to succeed. “Football taught me discipline early, and I realized quickly that success comes from hard work when nobody’s watching.”

That mindset continues to fuel his development today. Washington isn’t satisfied with recognition—he’s driven by something deeper. “What motivates me every day is knowing my potential hasn’t been reached yet,” he explained. “I’m chasing greatness — not just rankings or offers, but becoming the best version of myself as a player, teammate, and leader.” It’s a mentality that shows up every time he steps on the field or into the weight room.

His offseason approach reflects that same commitment to growth. Training alongside his coaches, a dedicated strength staff, and competitive teammates, Washington has zeroed in on becoming a complete linebacker. “This offseason my focus has been on increasing speed, improving lateral movement, and becoming more explosive while continuing to grow my football IQ,” he said. “I want to dominate every phase of the game…coverage, run support, and pass rush.”

Earning a 4-star ranking from Rivals is a milestone many players dream about, but Washington keeps it in perspective. “Being ranked a 4-star by Rivals is a blessing and a reflection of the work I’ve put in,” he said. “I’m grateful for the recognition, but I don’t see it as an end goal…stay humble, stay hungry, and keep working like I have something to prove every single day.” That grounded approach continues to elevate his profile nationally.

As recruiting attention grows, Washington is taking a thoughtful and patient approach to the process. “The recruiting process has been exciting and a learning experience,” he shared. “I’m looking for a program that feels like family, develops linebackers at a high level, and prepares players for the next level on and off the field.” For now, he’s keeping his options open while building meaningful relationships with college staffs.

Off the field, Washington’s character shines just as brightly as his play. “I’m a family-oriented person who values faith, education, and leadership,” he said. Whether it’s spending time with loved ones, staying active, or giving back to his community and church, he’s focused on making an impact beyond football. “My goal is to impact people positively and leave a legacy bigger than football.”
