Rockridge High School’s rising star wide receiver, Desai Ferrell (6’1, 180 lbs), put on a show at the Spotlight 39 Pro Day on March 15th, showcasing his elite route-running, athleticism, and playmaking ability. Competing alongside top talent, Ferrell took full advantage of the high-level coaching and intense competition.

“Everybody was having fun and competing, and the elite coaches helped depict my game piece by piece for the better,” Ferrell said. “I learned new route releases from my wide receiver coach, which helped me create separation on my most important routes.”

One of the biggest moments of the day came when Ferrell made a highlight-reel toe-tap touchdown grab in the back of the end zone. “That last catch where I toe-tapped with hardly any space in the end zone—it really showed my athleticism and quick decision-making,” he recalled.

Looking ahead to the fall, Ferrell is focused on becoming a more explosive and polished receiver. His offseason goals include increasing his speed, refining his route-running techniques, and studying the game at a deeper level. “I’m working on getting faster, learning quicker cutting routes like a smaller wide receiver, and becoming more of a student of the game,” he explained.

Ferrell’s camp circuit isn’t slowing down anytime soon. He’s set to attend the JMU camp, Rivals Combine, SL39 Pro Day Finale on May 10th, and possibly the Under Armour Next Camp on June 1st in Baltimore.

With the 2024 season fast approaching, Ferrell has his sights set on making history at Rockridge. “My personal goal is to be an All-State wide receiver with 1,000+ receiving yards and 30 touchdowns,” he stated. “For my team, I want us to make the playoffs for the first time in school history and play at least 12 games, so everybody gets enough film and exposure to showcase their skill fully.”

If his performance at the Spotlight 39 Pro Day is any indication, Desai Ferrell is a name to watch in Virginia football. Expect big things from this dynamic playmaker in the fall.
