Cheshire Academy in Cheshire, CT, has produced another promising football talent in 4-Star EDGE player Jacob Smith. Standing tall at 6'4" and weighing 225 pounds, Smith's journey in high school football has been marked by growth and improvement. Initially focused on making plays, he transitioned to a more technical approach, learning the game and understanding his role.

One of the most memorable moments of Smith's high school career was winning the state championship during his freshman year, securing the victory on the last play—an unforgettable experience reminiscent of a movie ending. Smith's playing style has evolved over the years, transitioning from playing end to becoming a versatile edge player. He excels in rushing the passer, dropping back into coverage, and dominating the boundary.

Throughout the recruitment process, Smith has garnered interest from various colleges and programs. However, he emphasizes the importance of finding a position coach he can trust and envision working with. Smith also highlights the significance of chemistry with teammates and the trustworthiness of the strength and conditioning coach.

Managing the recruitment process involved establishing connections with coaches, managing phone calls, and visiting schools of interest. Smith believes in visiting schools personally to meet the staff and gain a firsthand experience. While making decisions about which schools to consider, he had to strike a balance between practical considerations and personal connections.

Maintaining a balance between academics and athletics has been facilitated by attending a boarding school that emphasizes academics. Smith dedicated his free time to training with his brother and other teammates, seeking extra academic help when needed. During the summer, he followed structured workouts, continued field work, and participated in camps.

Coach Moore has had a significant impact on Smith's development as a football player, providing exposure and pushing him to work hard regardless of external factors. Overcoming challenges in his football career has involved leading by example to inspire others and gain their trust.

Looking ahead to his final high school football season, Smith aims to leave a lasting legacy by averaging an impressive number of sacks and leading his team to an undefeated season. He places great importance on staying healthy throughout the process.

Beyond football, Smith aspires to achieve financial security and generational wealth for his family, with or without football. While football remains a passion, he envisions a future where he can own property and land for his family's benefit.
