2025 RB Mekhi Nelson: St. Thomas More School (CT)
St. Thomas More's gridiron prodigy, Mekhi Nelson, stands at the cusp of greatness as he prepares to carve his path through the competitive landscape of high school football. At 6 feet tall and 195 pounds, Nelson's stature is matched only by his passion for the game and his unwavering dedication to excellence.
"I always loved the game and wanted to be a football player since the age of three," Nelson reminisces, reflecting on his journey into the sport. "Growing up, my uncle, older brother, and cousins all played football."
But Nelson's ascent to gridiron stardom isn't solely a solitary pursuit. Beyond the sidelines of St. Thomas More, he finds guidance and mentorship from Coach Tom at Vaportrail, along with Coach Josh, Kelsey, and Briggs at Fame Strength.
His athletic prowess extends beyond the confines of the football field, having previously excelled in track before transferring to STM.
Nelson's talent hasn't gone unnoticed by collegiate recruiters. "My recruitment has jumped a little since I made the move to STM," he explains. "It started at the end of my breakout sophomore year with my first offer being UConn, with Bowling Green, UMass, and Maine following up."
With offers on the table and a flurry of interest from top-tier institutions, Nelson plans to navigate the recruiting process meticulously. "I plan to go through the spring and camp season, pick up as many offers as I can, take OV’s (official visits), and either commit before or during the 2024 season," he reveals.
As the upcoming football season looms on the horizon, Nelson leaves no stone unturned in his quest for gridiron dominance. "At STM, we’re going through spring ball and winter strength and conditioning," he details. "I’ll lift one-two times a day and have a speed and agility session along with a team-padded practice every day."
But beyond the gridiron, Nelson's multifaceted persona shines through. An aficionado of summer car rides with music blaring, his favorite artists, Hunxho and Rylo Rodriguez, serve as the soundtrack to his off-field adventures. Moreover, his commitment to community and youth development is unwavering. "I usually help coach 7v7 and Pop Warner teams when I’m home for breaks from school," he shares. "I’ll also help support and fundraise for those teams and also do back-to-school drives with other members of my community."
As Mekhi Nelson's star continues to rise, one thing remains abundantly clear – both on and off the field, he's primed for success.
