2025 DE/OLB William Ferguson Jr: Nansemond River HS (VA)

Nansemond River High School's dynamic talent, William Ferguson Jr., is making himself known as a force to be reckoned with on the field. Standing at an imposing 6'4" and 230lbs, Ferguson's versatility and dedication have caught the attention of scouts and coaches alike.

“I started playing tackle football at age 10. Watching NFL players and influence from my father led me to a love for the game,” Ferguson shared when asked about his journey into football. His early passion fueled a relentless pursuit of excellence that has defined his athletic career.

Ferguson attributes much of his development to key mentors who have shaped his journey. "Giavanni Ruffin helped me significantly improve as an overall athlete and continues to push me! I’m at his TNDO gym as much as possible. Eli Harold trains me as an edge rusher and really emphasizes muscle memory development and the importance of mental toughness. Marquay McDaniel taught me to become a route runner, which opened doors for me athletically on the offensive side," he revealed, shedding light on the individuals who have played pivotal roles in his growth.

As the recruiting process unfolds, Ferguson remains focused on his goals. "I got a late start to my recruiting process, but things are starting to pick up for me. It feels great knowing that programs are taking me seriously and recruiting me," he remarked. Engaged in discussions with multiple schools, including the University at Buffalo, Liberty, and ODU, Ferguson is eager to explore his options and make a decision before the end of September.

With the offseason in full swing, Ferguson is leaving no stone unturned in his preparation. "I started running track to improve my speed and mobility. Colleges can expect a breakout season where I get to showcase my athleticism and help my team at DE, OLB, and TE," he explained. His commitment to improvement is evident, with increased training, heightened speed, and an expanded skill set poised to elevate his performance on Friday nights.

“My athletic versatility (including my 80” wingspan) sets me apart from the next guy," Ferguson asserted, highlighting the unique qualities that make him a standout prospect.

Beyond the gridiron, Ferguson draws inspiration from a diverse array of role models. "My sports role models include Von Miller, Julio Jones, Cam Newton, and LeBron James," he revealed. Yet, it's his family, particularly his father, who has left an indelible mark on his journey. "No one has had a more positive impact on my development as a young man and student-athlete than my father," he expressed gratefully.

Outside of sports, Ferguson enjoys the simple pleasures of life. "I love to hang out with my friends, play basketball, listen to music," he shared, showcasing a well-rounded personality rooted in faith and camaraderie.

As William Ferguson Jr. continues to carve his path in the world of football, all eyes are on this rising star, poised to leave an indelible mark on the game.
